For all the future moms, I feel I need to warn you all. I was given some warning but was in no way prepared for my little boy's 2 month checkup (and the 5, yes 5, shots he had to get). I've been very emotional all week anyway, but when he was going to the doctor, I was a basketcase! I was so worked up and just kept trying to tell myself it would all be alright.
We made it through it with a few tears, from him and from me. However, what happened that night was MUCH worse. I was warned he could run a temp, and sure enough...about 5:00, he came down with a 100.9 temp. Mommy was NOT happy! He whimpered all night and made the most pitiful sounds one could imagine coming from a little baby. The temp finally went down to a 99, and I tried to put him down in his crib to sleep. But he was so restless he couldn't sleep. And I was just petrified his temp would go higher so...I yanked him up and put him in the bed next to me. Needless to say, I slept very little but at least I could keep a watch over him all night. At 2am, he got super hot again and I had to give him more tylenol and try to calm him again...he finally fell asleep and the temp broke in the night! THANK GOODNESS!
I cannot believe I have to do this every couple of months...I have seriously never been so nervous in my entire life! I just don't know how to explain it...but there is a new level of panic that I have never known in my life when my child is sick and running a fever!
p.s. On the bright side, my return to work has honestly been very nice this week! I am quite confident it is because a number of wonderful friends have been praying very hard for me, and because my WONDERFUL mother-in-law has been keeping my little man! Check with me next week when I have to leave him at daycare, and we'll see if I am still this calm :-)

Every day of work gets a little better- but I'm glad that it's going well so far.
ReplyDeleteAnd remember that Ty may not have as bad a reaction to the shots next time. Libby's first time was good - thankfully. However, we have them again next week and who knows...
